Olympic Winter Games

Sasha Cohen headed to Vancouver

Sasha Cohen will be in Vancouver after all. Less than a month after her bid to make her third consecutive Olympic team ended with a fourth place showing at the 2010 U.S. Championships, the reigning Olympic silver medalist has joined the team of Yahoo! Sports experts covering the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada.

“The Olympics have always been a special competition with an atmosphere unlike anything else,” said Cohen, the 2006 U.S. Champion. “I’ve been out there on the ice before with the world watching, and that was amazing, but I’m really looking forward to experiencing the Olympics in a different way. I am excited for the new challenge that working with the Yahoo! Sports team will provide.”

Cohen, who has already arrived in Vancouver, will provide expert analysis and commentary on the men’s and ladies short programs and free skates from the Pacific Coliseum on the Yahoo! Web site. The men’s competition starts Tuesday and continues Feb. 18 while the ladies events are next week, Feb. 23 and 25.

Links to Cohen’s coverage will be provided on her Web site www.sashacohen.com.

Cohen finished fourth in her Olympic debut at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Four years later, she won the short program, then went on to win a silver medal weeks after she claimed her first national title at the 2006 U.S. Championships in St. Louis.

Following a bronze medal performance at the 2006 World Championships, Cohen left the competitive realm to focus on touring with Stars on Ice, something she will resume this spring, as well as other creative endeavors including acting.

She attempted her return in fall 2009 but injuries kept her out of international competition. At 2010 nationals, she captivated the crowd with a spectacular second place short program, helping her to a fourth place finish overall at the event. The 2010 U.S. Champion Rachael Flatt and silver medalist Mirai Nagasu will both make their Olympic debuts in Vancouver.
